The Appraisal District Board of Directors Role in the Property Tax System

The local property tax system follows the principle of checks and balances. An appraisal district Board of Directors hires the chief appraiser, sets the budget and appoints the appraisal review board members.

The directors have no authority to set values or appraisal methods. The chief appraiser carries out the appraisal district’s legal duties, hires the staff, makes the appraisals and operates the appraisal office.

The Blanco CAD Board is made up of five directors elected by the governing boards of the taxing entities whose jurisdictions lie in the appraisal district. Each Blanco CAD Board member serves a two year term. 

The Blanco County Appraisal District holds its regularly scheduled quarterly meetings generally on the 2nd Tuesday of the months of March, June, September, and December. These dates are subject to change based on Board member availability and scheduling conflicts. 

There may be special meetings held throughout the year as required and timely notice will posted as required by law.

The Blanco CAD Board  meets  in the Conference Room of the Blanco CAD office at 615 North Nugent in Johnson City.
